Washington (USA), Apr 21 (LaPresse) – US President Donald Trump said he believes the United States “will reach an excellent deal” with Iran to end the war. “I think they have no choice,” he said during an interview with CNBC. “We have destroyed their Navy, we have destroyed their Air Force, we have eliminated their leaders,” the US president added. “We have eliminated their leaders, which makes things more complicated in a way, but these leaders are much more rational,” Trump continued. “It is a regime change, call it whatever you want, something I had not promised to do, but which I did indirectly,” he added, later ruling out the possibility of extending the truce with Tehran. “We don’t have much time, because when both sides get there, as you know, they have just been given the green light to move forward – which I knew they would do anyway – I don’t think they had a choice. They must negotiate,” he explained. Asked about the impact of his threat to bomb bridges and power plants in Iran, the tycoon stressed that it would damage Iranians from a military point of view. “It’s not my choice, but it will damage them. It will hit them militarily. They use bridges for their weapons, for missile movement,” he said, adding that both sides have used the truce to “replenish.” Trump said Iran has a strong incentive to reach a deal with the United States, describing the people as “incredible” but the leadership as “bloodthirsty” and “tough.” “If Iran reaches a deal, it can go back to being a strong nation, a wonderful nation,” he said. Finally, Trump reiterated that the US has total control of the Strait of Hormuz.
