Milan, 22 Apr. (LaPresse) – French President Emmanuel Macron has announced the death of a French soldier who was repatriated yesterday from Lebanon after being wounded by Hezbollah. This is the second French soldier to die following Saturday’s attack on UNIFIL troops. ‘Lance Corporal Anicet Girardin of the 132nd Dog Handler Infantry Regiment in Suippes, repatriated yesterday from Lebanon where he had been seriously wounded by Hezbollah fighters, died this morning as a result of his injuries,’ Macron reported in a post on X, adding that ‘he died for France’. “The nation, which tomorrow will pay tribute to Marshal Florian Montorio, fatally wounded during the same ambush, pays an emotional tribute to the memory of Staff Corporal Anicet Girardin and his sacrifice. It also extends its sincerest thoughts and deepest sympathy to his family, his loved ones, and the families of the other wounded,‘ added the President, concluding by saying that France ’pays tribute to the exemplary commitment of our armed forces within UNIFIL, who operate with courage and determination in the service of France and peace in Lebanon".
