Japan, 6.2-magnitude earthquake in the north

Tokyo (Japan), Apr 27 (LaPresse) – A magnitude 6.2 earthquake shook a northern area of Japan in the early hours of today. No casualties or damage have been reported. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) did not issue any tsunami warning. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the inland earthquake struck 18 kilometers west of the small town of Sarabetsu, on the northernmost main island of Japan, Hokkaido, at a depth of 81 kilometers. The JMA specified that today’s earthquake occurred outside the area under a megaquake warning following last week’s magnitude 7.7 quake, and that the special awareness week will end as planned.
