Milan, 27 Apr. (LaPresse) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has cancelled this year’s Lag BaOmer Jewish holiday ceremony, scheduled for 5 May on Mount Meron, due to a tightening of restrictions imposed by the Home Front Command in northern communities. The tightening is due to the risk of attacks by Hezbollah. This was reported by the Israeli newspaper Ynet. The Command has limited gatherings to 1,500 people in border communities and in other locations including Meron, and stated that the decision was taken because of the fragile ceasefire with Lebanon, the proximity of Meron to the border and the difficulty of evacuating a large number of participants from the area. "Despite ceasefire statements, the reality on the ground shows that security along the confrontation line has not been restored and that launches towards our communities continue, including drones and today’s sirens," said the Forum of Confrontation Line Communities.
