Following Charles and Camilla’s visit, Trump cuts tariffs on Scotch whisky

Washington (USA), 30 April (LaPresse) – President Trump has announced that he has removed certain tariffs on Scotch whisky following this week’s visit to the White House by King Charles and Queen Camilla. In a post on Truth, the president stated that the royal couple had convinced him to do “something that no one else had been able to do, almost without even asking!”. Trump claimed that people wanted this change, particularly regarding the wooden casks in which Scotch and bourbon are aged. His post did not clarify whether the tariffs were being removed on bottles of Scotch or on the materials used for the production of spirits in both countries. “I will remove tariffs and restrictions on whisky relating to Scotland’s ability to collaborate with the Commonwealth of Kentucky regarding whisky and bourbon,” Trump wrote. Last year, the US administration reached a trade agreement that imposed 10% tariffs on most goods imported from Britain. The Scotch Whisky Association stated that the volume of its exports to the United States had fallen by 15% following the introduction of tariffs in April last year.
