Rome, 3 May (LaPresse) – Next Thursday and Friday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will be in Rome for a series of meetings with the Holy See and the government. This is reported by *Corriere della Sera*, which describes the move as an attempt to ‘thaw’ bilateral relations. This is Rubio’s third visit to Italy, following his visit last May to Villa Madama and his attendance at the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics, alongside J.D. Vance, in February. Rubio’s schedule in Rome is not yet finalised, the newspaper reports. It currently includes three meetings. First, he will meet the Secretary of State of the Holy See, Pietro Parolin. The following day, Rubio will meet with Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, and on the same day he will have lunch with Defence Minister Guido Crosetto. A face-to-face meeting between the US Secretary and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has not been ruled out, but nor has it been confirmed: “I want to meet her,” he has said. And then there is another question mark: who knows if Pope Leo XIV will grant him an audience.
