Washington (USA), 4 May (LaPresse) – With six months to go until November’s mid-term elections, Donald Trump continues to lose support, jeopardising the Republicans’ electoral prospects. The situation is reflected in a new poll conducted by Ipsos for the Washington Post and ABC, according to which the president’s overall approval rating now stands at 37%. This figure is essentially unchanged from the 39% recorded in February. However, the disapproval rating has reached 62%, the highest level ever recorded during Trump’s two terms in office. Among Republicans, approval for the tycoon has remained stable at 85%, whilst among independents leaning towards the Republican Party, his approval rating has hit a new low, falling to 56%. Among independents as a whole, his approval rating stands at 25%. According to the survey, Americans disapprove of Trump’s handling of the situation with Iran by a margin of 66% to 33%. His approval rating on the economy has fallen by seven points to 34%, coinciding with the sharp rise in petrol prices. His approval rating on inflation has fallen by five points over the same period, dropping to 27%; his lowest rating by far, however, is in the perception of his handling of the cost of living in general, with 23% approval against 76% disapproval.
