Frankfurt (Germany), 5 May (LaPresse) – "It is pure cynicism to call for a ceasefire and then celebrate victory for propaganda purposes, whilst continuing to carry out missile and drone attacks every single day leading up to it. Russia could cease fire at any moment, and this would bring an end to the war and our responses. Peace is necessary, and concrete steps are needed to achieve it. Ukraine will act accordingly." This was written on X by the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky. "Last night, the Russians attacked energy infrastructure in the Poltava region. And they struck again in a particularly cowardly manner with a missile whilst State Emergency Service rescuers were already on site to extinguish the fire. At present, there are dozens of injured. Sadly, four people have died, including two rescue workers. They are Hero of Ukraine Viktor Kuzmenko, who had responded to bombings on over 50 occasions, and Dmytro Skryl, who had served in the State Emergency Service for over 20 years. ‘My deepest condolences to their families and loved ones,’ wrote Zelensky, explaining that ‘The Russians have also struck the Kharkiv region. Four people have been injured. Sadly, one person has died. My condolences. In the Dnipro region, they attacked critical infrastructure. Three people have been injured. In Pavlohrad, power lines were damaged, leaving thousands of households without electricity. There were also attacks in Zaporizhzhia and the Kyiv region, where three people were injured. Overall, Russia’s main targets overnight were our energy infrastructure.”
