Iran: Trump announces suspension of Project Freedom for the Strait of Hormuz

Milan, 6 May (LaPresse) – “Project Freedom (the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz) will be suspended for a short period to see if an agreement can be finalised and signed” with Iran. This was announced by US President Donald Trump in a post on the social media platform Truth. The decision, Trump specified, was taken ‘by mutual agreement’ and ‘in light of the request made by Pakistan and other countries, the enormous military success achieved during the campaign against Iran and, furthermore, the significant progress made towards reaching a comprehensive and definitive agreement with Iranian representatives’. The post finally clarifies that the US naval blockade in the area remains in force.
