Milan, 21 May (LaPresse) – "Last year in The Hague, we laid the foundations for a strong NATO 3.0: we want Europe to play a more decisive role, a more robust deterrent and closer cooperation in the armaments sector, with a view to pooling the capabilities of our industries and strengthening our defence capacity. Germany is assuming its leadership responsibility within NATO.‘ This was stated by the German Foreign Minister, Johann Wadephul, ahead of the meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Helsingborg, Sweden. ’Our aim is a new burden-sharing arrangement within the NATO Alliance, one that reflects the economic and military potential of Germany and Europe," he said. ‘Ukraine makes the greatest contribution to European security outside NATO. In Sweden, we intend to draw up proposals on how to further support Ukraine and, within the Alliance, benefit from the achievements of the Ukrainian defence industry,’ he added. He continued: “The situation in the Middle East will also be discussed in Helsingborg. Our efforts are aimed at ensuring the freedom of navigation for all ships and thus global security of supply. We are ready to participate in international efforts to ensure the security of the Strait of Hormuz.”
