Iran: Republicans postpone vote on limits to Trump’s war powers

Washington (USA), 22 May (LaPresse/AP) – Republicans have postponed until June a vote on a bill that would have forced US President Donald Trump to withdraw from the war with Iran. The US House of Representatives had scheduled a vote on a war powers resolution, tabled by the Democrats, which would have curbed Trump’s military campaign. But when it became clear that the Republicans would not have the numbers to defeat the bill, GOP leaders refused to put it to a vote. This is the latest sign of waning support in Congress for the war launched by Trump in Iran. Republicans in the Senate are also working to ensure they have the votes needed to defeat another war powers resolution that reached a final vote earlier this week, when four Republican senators supported the resolution and three others were absent at the time of the vote.
