Madrid (Spain), 27 May (LaPresse) – With Pope Leo XIV ‘I had the opportunity to discuss migration’, an issue on which the Spanish government and the Church are ‘in fairly close agreement’; the Pontiff showed himself to be ‘interested in the policies’ of Spain. This was stated by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez at a press conference at the Spanish Embassy to the Holy See, following his audience with Pope Leo XIV. “Our position is clear”: we are in favour of “orderly migration that opens up opportunities and creates shared prosperity”, with human dignity above all else, said Sánchez, before criticising those who pollute the debate with “lies and a supposed national priority”. “The Pope has a special sensitivity towards migration” and this issue “will feature prominently on the agenda of his apostolic journey to Spain,” he added.
