Bunia (Democratic Republic of the Congo), 9 June (LaPresse/AP) – At least 100 people have died of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Of the 550 confirmed cases of the disease as of Sunday, there have been 101 deaths and 19 recoveries, according to the latest situation report, published yesterday evening. The outbreak is concentrated in the eastern Congolese province of Ituri, which accounts for over 90% of cases. Cases have also been recorded in the provinces of North Kivu and South Kivu, and the outbreak has spread across the border into Uganda. Attacks on healthcare workers by angry residents, scepticism among some locals and armed conflicts in conflict zones continue to hamper efforts to halt the outbreak, which was officially declared on 15 May.
