Milan, 9 June (LaPresse) – "In order to achieve a ceasefire, in my view, it would be better to hold a meeting at the leaders’ level. Who? Certainly Ukraine, Russia and, of course, Europe. It would be desirable for the United States of America to be present as well.‘ This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking at a joint press conference with Estonian President Alar Karis in Tallinn, as reported by Ukrinform. According to Zelensky, Europe must be represented in future peace talks with Russia. ’Why Europe? Because we are in Europe: that is the answer. Because this is our land, this is our continent, and we must be certain that life will be safe tomorrow, whatever the cost," Zelensky added, emphasising that Ukraine has the political will for such negotiations, whereas Russia has not yet demonstrated it. In this regard, the president called for continued pressure on Moscow to force it to engage in a diplomatic process. ‘The 21st EU sanctions package is necessary. And today we also discussed the fact that the Baltic Sea and the North Sea must not be a free zone for the Russian shadow fleet. All decisions that restrict the activities of Russian oil tankers are decisions that benefit not only Ukraine, but the whole of Europe,’ he concluded.
