Rome, 20 Apr. (LaPresse) – Eni announces a major new gas discovery made by the Geliga-1 exploration well, drilled in the Ganal block in the Kutei Basin, approximately 70 km off the coast of East Kalimantan, in Indonesian offshore waters. Preliminary estimates indicate in-place volumes of approximately 140 billion cubic metres of gas (5 Tcf) and 300 million barrels of condensate in the interval encountered. “The Geliga-1 well was drilled to a total depth of approximately 5,100 metres in water depths of around 2,000 metres and encountered a significant gas column in the Miocene interval, characterised by excellent petrophysical properties. A production test is planned to assess the reservoir’s productivity. The Geliga-1 discovery forms part of Eni’s excellent exploration track record in the Kutei Basin and follows the major Geng North discovery, made in late 2023 just 20 km south of Geliga, as well as the more recent discovery at the Konta-1 well, announced in December 2025. “These results confirm the significant potential of the basin’s gas play and the scalability of resources in the area,” reads Eni’s statement.
