Rome, 5 May (LaPresse) – Final judgement handed down in the Corinaldo tragedy of 8 December 2018, at the Lanterna Azzurra nightclub where six people died. The Court of Cassation has upheld the verdict of the second appeal: all defendants have been acquitted of the most serious charges of multiple manslaughter and culpable disaster. However, some lesser convictions remain, relating to the venue’s licences, with suspended sentences for former mayor Matteo Principi and other officials involved. The nightclub manager was acquitted. Claims for compensation were also rejected. That night, during a concert by rapper Sfera Ebbasta, a mass stampede caused by pepper spray led to the collapse of a structure and the deaths of five minors and a mother.
