Rome, 6 June (LaPresse) – "There is a crisis of democracy and there is a crisis of employment and, in my opinion, the two are linked: when precariousness grows, when people are poor despite working, when people die at work, they feel alone and unrepresented, and this is how democracy enters into crisis. That is why today we want to put work back at the centre by strengthening democracy and changing the laws that have been made over the last twenty years by all political forces." This is what CGIL secretary Maurizio Landini said in an interview with La Stampa, adding: 'I have said this very clearly in all the meetings I have held: I don't care if you voted in the general election or which party you voted for, now we are asking you to vote not for a party, not for a government, we are asking you to vote for yourselves. To regain your rights and change the laws that Parliament has passed in recent years and which we consider harmful to the world of work, which continues to be the majority in this country and which keeps this country going. The referendum is about having a direct impact: if we reach the quorum, those misguided laws will be scrapped and the next day millions of people will have more rights and greater freedom at work."
