Rome, April 29 (LaPresse) – "Today, in first reading in the Chamber of Deputies, the constitutional reform to strengthen the role of Rome Capital and to grant the Capitoline administration the legislative powers needed to deal with matters that directly affect the lives of Romans and the interest of the entire nation has been approved, because a well-functioning capital supports the growth of the whole country. With regret and astonishment, we must note the decision of the Democratic Party to abstain. This is a choice that strongly affects us because, as is well known, the text of the constitutional bill incorporated during parliamentary examination the proposals put forward by the Mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri." Thus said Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. "Today, however, the Democratic Party chooses not to respect the commitments made and to interrupt a fully shared constituent process, which had so far seen the full involvement of the Capitol and the Lazio Region and had matured in Parliament. It is impossible to accept the PD’s call for shared reforms if the same PD then does not vote for a shared reform that strengthens the institutional role of the Capital, regardless of who governs it today or will govern it tomorrow. Today a constituent process is interrupted, and those responsible for this choice have names and surnames. The Democratic Party and Mayor Gualtieri will have to answer for this choice before the citizens," Meloni concludes.
