Rome, May 31 (LaPresse) – Ukraine in the EU? "Everyone knows it is very difficult. Not only politically, but because if Ukraine were to join Europe, given its size and its economic system, there would immediately be a very serious crisis in the agricultural sector for many EU countries, which no one, not even the Germans, can afford." This is what Defence Minister Guido Crosetto said in an interview with Corriere della Sera, where he proposes: "It is increasingly urgent to organise a large common European defence system that goes beyond the current EU-27 borders, including the United Kingdom, Norway, the Balkans and also Ukraine. After all, today they have by far the most important and strongest army. I do not think anyone could oppose such a system, because it would guarantee everyone. Obviously, once a ceasefire and peace are achieved. This would truly be an effective deterrence system." On defence, he adds: "There are reasonable and serious parts of the opposition, but in both camps there are those who do not understand or do not want to understand. But I will go on and do my job, which is that of Defence Minister. I understand that there are those who have objections and those who must manage a public opinion that it is almost impossible to explain how important and necessary autonomous defence capabilities are. But if all countries in the world are strengthening them, is it possible that they are all crazy? I am the Defence Minister and I say what would be right to do to build a serious Defence, just as the Health Minister or the Education Minister or any other department does regarding their field."
