Milan, 1 July (LaPresse) – The Houston Rockets are the big stars of the first few weeks of the NBA free agency period, which officially began last night. After the arrival of All-Star Kevin Durant in a blockbuster trade with the Phoenix Suns, the Rockets have strengthened their roster by signing veteran Dorian Finney-Smith to a four-year, $53 million contract. Houston becomes Finney-Smith's fourth team after stints with Dallas, Brooklyn and the Los Angeles Lakers. ESPN also reported that the Rockets' pursuit of free agents continued with the arrival of centre Clint Capela, who spent the first six years of his career in Houston before playing the last five seasons in Atlanta. Capela has agreed to a three-year deal with the Rockets. The San Antonio Spurs have also been very active, snatching centre Luke Kornet from the Boston Celtics with a four-year, $41 million contract. This is an important addition to give Victor Wembanyama's team some substance under the basket. Other notable deals include the arrival of D'Angelo Russell at the Dallas Mavericks on a two-year contract worth almost $13 million. Atlanta added Nickeil Alexander-Walker from Minnesota on a four-year, $62 million contract. Also in the East, the Orlando Magic signed Tyus Jones on a one-year contract. Tyus Jones' brother, Tre Jones, has signed a three-year deal to return to the Chicago Bulls.
