Rome, 17 Apr. (LaPresse) – ‘There was this interview on Friday that created all this fuss this week. For me, it was truly an incredible surprise, because there has never been a different tone between Ranieri and me, whether in press conferences we held with other people, or in our relationship. So it was something truly unexpected. In all these months, I had never had this feeling, never heard this tone from him.’ So said Gian Piero Gasperini, Roma’s manager, on the eve of the match against Atalanta, regarding the comments made by senior advisor Claudio Ranieri. “From that moment on, I was simply concerned, firstly not to respond, and secondly to try not to cause any kind of damage or difficulty for the team, primarily, and also out of respect for the fans,” he added. “I would really like us to talk about this, partly because I haven’t spoken out all week; it hasn’t been widely reported, and I would have liked to try to prevent all this, but it was impossible for me to do so. So from today, I would really like us to talk about football, about respect for a match that is on matchday 33,” he emphasised.
