London (United Kingdom), 19 April (LaPresse/AP) – Tottenham have filed a complaint with the British police regarding racist abuse on social media directed at Austrian defender Kevin Danso, who was blamed for allowing Georginio Rutter’s stoppage-time goal that secured a 2-2 draw for Brighton in yesterday’s match against Spurs. The result leaves Tottenham in the relegation zone in the Premier League. Tottenham have condemned the “vile and dehumanising racism” directed at their player. “Since yesterday’s match against Brighton, played during the Premier League’s ‘No Room For Racism’ weekend, Kevin Danso has been, and continues to be, the target of significant and appalling racist abuse on social media,” the London club explained. “We have heard and seen vile and dehumanising racism. This behaviour is undoubtedly a criminal offence. It will not be tolerated.” Tottenham stated that “we will push for the strictest possible measures to be taken against every single person we identify. Kevin has our full and unconditional support, both as a player and as a person. No one at this club will ever be alone in facing this situation.” The Premier League issued a statement on X in support of Danso, warning that “any individual identified and found guilty of discrimination will face the strictest possible consequences, including club bans and legal proceedings.”
