Rome, 6 May (LaPresse) – Paralympic archer Matteo Bonacina has been placed under house arrest. The State Police have executed an order enforcing the precautionary measure of house arrest issued by the Court of Rome – Preliminary Investigating Magistrate’s Section – against the 42-year-old, a resident of the province of Turin, who is under investigation for stalking, psychological abuse, harassment and sexual violence committed against female athletes of the Paralympic National Archery Team. The investigation stemmed from a report forwarded to the judicial authorities following the athlete’s precautionary suspension from all sporting activities. The digital search carried out by the Turin Operations Centre and the investigations coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Rome have revealed a pattern of serious conduct, both verbal and physical, towards female colleagues, including minors, both within sports facilities and via social media through the sending of messages, images and videos of an explicit sexual nature. His behaviour continued from 2013 for several years, creating a climate of anxiety and constant unease within the competitive sporting environment he frequented. The operation was carried out by staff from the Turin Cyber Security Operations Centre, coordinated by the Postal and Cyber Security Police Service in Rome.
