Rome, May 7 (LaPresse) – The day for the Italian players at the Italian Open, an ATP Masters 1000 tournament on the clay courts of the Foro Italico in Rome, begins with disappointment. In the first match on Centre Court, Matteo Berrettini, ranked No. 100 ATP, was eliminated in the first round by the strong Australian Alexei Popyrin, world No. 60, who won in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 in one hour and 29 minutes of play. In the next round, Popyrin will face Czech player Jakub Mensik, with the winner then set to meet Jannik Sinner.
