Milan, 18 May (LaPresse) – There have been several changes for Italian players in the women’s world rankings published this morning by the WTA following the conclusion of the Rome ‘1000’ tournament on the clay courts of the Foro Italico. Once again this week, there are two Italian players in the top 100. The Italian leader is still Jasmine Paolini: the 30-year-old from Bagni di Lucca, who failed to defend the title she won last year at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia after exiting in the third round (beaten by Mertens despite holding three match points), drops five places, bids farewell to the top ten – where she had remained continuously since 7 June 2024 (after the Roland Garros final) – and drops to 13th place. Behind her, Elisabetta Cocciaretto climbs one place to number 40.
