Milan, 4 June (LaPresse) – The election campaign for the appointment of Real Madrid’s new president is heating up, with the two candidates, Florentino Perez and Enrique Riquelme, trading announcements and promises that are sparking controversy even beyond Spain’s borders. Outgoing president Perez has effectively announced Jose Mourinho’s return to the dugout with a video created using artificial intelligence, in which the Special One is seen wearing a Real Madrid kit and uttering a simple ‘Yes’, interpreted as an endorsement of a possible return. The Portuguese media, however, report that Mourinho himself has denied to Benfica that he took part in the making of the video. Things did not go any better for the other candidate, Riquelme, who promised to do everything in his power to bring none other than Erling Haaland to the Casa Blanca. According to Marca, however, Manchester City have categorically denied the possibility of the Norwegian striker leaving. “The reports coming out of Spain regarding Erling Haaland’s future are false. There is no chance of this happening and there is no contractual clause allowing for it,” an authorised City source is reported to have told the Spanish newspaper. City are also said to be considering possible legal action.
