Milan, 12 June (LaPresse) – Pierre Gasly’s podium finish at the Monte Carlo Grand Prix has been reinstated following the upholding of Alpine’s appeal. Formula 1 announced this on its website. Starting from ninth on the grid last weekend in the Principality, the Frenchman had climbed up to fourth place during a race marked by two Safety Car periods and a red flag, before gaining a further position thanks to the drive-through penalty imposed on Mercedes’ George Russell. However, Gasly had been penalised twice for speeding in the pit lane during the race, receiving two five-second penalties each, added to his time, which had dropped him to seventh place at the finish line – a final result that had deeply disappointed him. After the race, Alpine lodged an appeal against the decision that had deprived Gasly of his first podium of the season. The preliminary hearing took place on Thursday, at the start of the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix weekend. By providing new, significant and relevant evidence, the Enstone-based team was successful at the preliminary hearing. The FIA subsequently confirmed that the French driver’s penalties had been rescinded and his podium finish at the Monaco Grand Prix reinstated.
