Washington (USA), 17 April (LaPresse) – The acting director of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Todd Lyons, a key figure in the implementation of US President Donald Trump’s mass deportation programme, is set to resign at the end of May. This was announced by several federal officials. Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin, in announcing Lyons’ departure, described him as a great leader of ICE and specified that his last day of service will be 31 May: “We wish him good luck in his next opportunity in the private sector,” he said. Furthermore, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson described Lyons as “an American patriot who has made our country safer”. Trump’s border chief, Tom Homan, described Lyons as someone who served selflessly and as “a highly respected and effective acting director of ICE”. At present, the reasons for his departure remain unclear.
