Milan, 18 Apr. (LaPresse) – Hezbollah has denied ‘any involvement’ in the incident that led to the death of a French UNIFIL peacekeeper in Ghandouriyé, southern Lebanon. The Shia paramilitary group has called for ‘caution before making accusations and judgements, pending the conclusions of the investigation conducted by the Lebanese army to ascertain the exact circumstances of the incident’. This is reported by L'Orient Le Jour. ‘Hezbollah also emphasises the ongoing cooperation between the local population, UNIFIL and the Lebanese army, highlighting the importance of coordination between these two entities in their operations, particularly in this sensitive context,’ reads the statement from the Lebanese group, "in this context, Hezbollah expresses its surprise at the hasty accusations levelled against it, especially given the silence of these same parties when the Israeli enemy attacks UNIFIL forces."
