London (United Kingdom), 19 May (LaPresse/AP) – British police said today that they will ask the Crown Prosecution Service to consider charging 57 individuals and 20 organisations with criminal offences in connection with the Grenfell Tower fire on 14 June 2017, in which 72 people died. The Metropolitan Police stated that the files containing the evidence will be submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service by the end of September, with decisions on charges expected by 14 June 2027, the tenth anniversary of the tragedy. The families of the victims and survivors have said that any further delay in justice would be unacceptable. A 2024 public inquiry found that the deaths were preventable and that a combination of dishonest companies, incompetent regulators and government failures led to the building being clad in flammable external cladding.
