Rome, 19 May (LaPresse) – Dan Europe has confirmed in a statement the recovery of two of the four victims of the diving tragedy in the Maldives. The operation, it is explained, was carried out this morning “by the team of technical and cave divers coordinated by Dan Europe, in close collaboration with the Maldives National Defence Force and local police forces, and in constant contact with the Italian authorities present in Malé”. During the operation – the statement continues – ‘the team once again carried out a deep penetration dive within the cave system using advanced equipment, including rebreathers, DPVs (underwater scooters) and redundant life support systems’. The Finnish recovery team successfully transported two of the victims from inside the cave to a depth of approximately 30 metres, where the Maldivian recovery teams, operating in coordinated groups at intermediate depths, completed the transfer to the surface. ‘Once recovered, the victims were transferred with the utmost respect onto stretchers and subsequently taken aboard Coast Guard vessels,’ said Dan Europe. Sea and weather conditions permitting, operations to recover the remaining two victims will continue tomorrow.
