Adloun (Lebanon), May 30 (LaPresse) – Israeli aviation and artillery struck areas near a strategic mountain hosting a castle built by the Crusaders in southern Lebanon on Saturday, as fighting raged in villages near the southern city of Nabatieh. Lebanon’s state news agency, National News Agency (NNA), reported Israeli airstrikes and artillery shelling near the Crusader-built Beaufort Castle, located about 15 kilometres from the Israeli border and overlooking large areas of southern Lebanon. This strategic castle was occupied by Israeli troops for 18 years, until their withdrawal from Lebanon in May 2000. Israeli troops have been advancing for days in villages near the castle, including Yohmor and Zawtar al-Sharqieh, close to the city of Nabatieh, after crossing the Litani River, a strategic line that the Israeli army has effectively used as an operational boundary.
