Brussels, 11 May (LaPresse) – “If we give Russia the right to appoint a negotiator on our behalf, that would not be very wise.” This was stated by the High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, on her arrival at the EU Foreign Affairs Council, in response to Putin’s proposal that former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder could act as a mediator in the peace talks. ‘Secondly, I believe that Gerhard Schröder has been a high-level lobbyist for Russian state-owned companies. So it is clear why Putin wants him to fill this role, so that he can sit on both sides of the table.’
