Rome, 19 May (LaPresse) – “We are also discussing within the government a restriction – which, in my view, is currently punitive and excessive – on the use and monetisation of private property, namely limiting the so-called short-term rental market.” So said the Minister for Infrastructure, Matteo Salvini, speaking via video link to the Confedilizia assembly currently taking place in Rome. ‘If private property is sacred, everyone can do as they please with their own flat; if anything, regulations can be imposed within the block of flats, but blocking or censoring it is out of the question. I believe this is an ideological battle waged by certain mayors – I’m thinking of Florence or Milan – and that by constantly imposing restrictions, limitations and penalties, we are hollowing out our historic centres.’
