Milan, 3 May (LaPresse) – German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has stated that he will not abandon his cooperation with US President Donald Trump, despite the differences between the two leaders over the war in Iran. ‘I am not giving up on working on transatlantic relations. Nor am I giving up on working with Donald Trump,’ Merz told the public broadcaster ARD in an interview. Merz emphasised that he does not wish to give up working on transatlantic relations: “Nor am I giving up on working with Donald Trump.” According to Trump, the United States plans to withdraw more troops from Germany than initially announced. “We will significantly reduce the contingent, by more than 5,000 troops,” Trump told reporters in Florida on Saturday. With over 39,000 US soldiers, Germany is currently the largest American military base in Europe and serves as an important training centre.
