Naples, May 8 (LaPresse) – “Naples is a city of a thousand colors, where the culture and traditions of the past blend with modernity and innovation; it is a city where spontaneous and vibrant popular religiosity intertwines with numerous social fragilities and the many faces of poverty; it is an ancient city but one in constant motion, inhabited by great beauty and at the same time marked by much suffering and even stained by violence.” This was said by Pope Leo XIV during his address at a meeting with the clergy in the Cathedral of Naples. “In this context, pastoral action is called to a continual embodiment of the Gospel message, so that the Christian faith professed and celebrated may not be limited to a few emotional events but may deeply penetrate the fabric of life and society,” the Pope added. “It is a great joy for me to visit this city, immensely rich in art and culture, located in the heart of the Mediterranean and inhabited by a unique and joyful people despite the burden of many hardships. My revered predecessor, Pope Francis, coming here in 2015, said: ‘Life in Naples has never been easy, but it has never been sad! This is your great resource: joy, cheerfulness.’ Today I am also here to be infected by this joy. Thank you for your welcome,” the Holy Father said.
