Rome, May 8 (LaPresse) – French rider Paul Magnier of Soudal Quick-Step won the sprint finish of the opening stage of the Giro d'Italia, from Nessebar to Burgas, over a 147-kilometre route, and therefore claimed the first pink jersey. Danish rider Tobias Lund Andresen of Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team narrowly missed out, finishing in second place. The stage was marked by a crash around 500 metres from the finish. Several riders were left on the ground, effectively blocking the road for almost the entire peloton.
